A Poison Tree
by William Blake
The poem is built up on several contrasts; friend-foe; Love- hate;
trust-deceit. poison tree stand for hatred. Hatred is the outcome of a
lack of trust. It is true that excuses heard are pardoned and forgiven
among friends but it is difficult to suppress the feeling of hatred
against one’s enemy. Once never loses a chance of letting down one’s
enemy. Deprivation of love and affection give birth to confrontation
anger, animosity and destruction in society.
